For clinicians treating recreational drug and alcohol users, addicts, and those in recovery.
If the gods have become diseases and there are gods of healing, who and what is present, or hidden, in substance use, addiction and recovery? This evening series will examine what substance using, addicted, and recovering patients may bring into the consulting room. Each evening session will be focused on one of the following substances: alcohol, marijuana/cannabinoids, opioids, methamphetamine, and hallucinogens. Each will be considered from social, cultural, historical, mythological and archetypal perspectives, including organic (brain) and interpersonal (behavior) factors activated during use and recovery. Clinical case material, by faculty and program participants, will be considered.
